Exam details:

Mayfield Grammar School, Gravesend exam consists of two papers, each lasting around 60 minutes. The first test covers English and Maths. The second test assesses a child’s Verbal and Non-verbal Reasoning

A written exercise is also given but is not marked. It is used by a panel of headteachers and is only used for borderline assessment cases

If girls have been unsuccessful in the Kent test, the school puts them forward for an optional test called the Mayfield Procedure. This is set by CEM Durham. The girl has another chance at getting into the school. 

This consists of two parts. The first part is a computer-based test focusing on verbal reasoning, numerical reasoning and non-verbal reasoning The second part is an English paper to assess reading and writing skills.

The school holds an open evening for Year 5 students considering applying to the school.

The Exam is organised by Kent Council Council and so you must register for the exam on the Kent Local Authority Website when your child is in Year 5. As a guideline, registration opened on the 1st June last year.
