The Ripon Grammar School test consists of two multiple-choice papers covering:
- One paper covers a mixture of questions in Verbal Reasoning and English, this lasts 50 minutes
- The other paper covers a mixture of questions in Mathematics and Non-Verbal Reasoning, this lasts 50 minutes

For Ermysted’s Grammar School, priority catchment area is defined by the areas served by the primary schools in Beamsley, Bradley, Burnsall, Carleton, Cracoe, Embsay, Gargrave, Grassington, Kettlewell, Kirkby-in-Malhamdale, Skipton, Thornton-in-Craven and Threshfield.
There is no formal 11+ pass mark, as the scores are age-standardised to ensure fairness.
