Dover Grammar School for Boys offers pupils the choice of sitting the Kent test or the Dover Grammar School test.

The Kent test consists of two papers, each lasting around 60 minutes. The first test covers English and Maths. The second test assesses a child’s Verbal and Non-verbal Reasoning

A written exercise is also given but is not marked. It is used by a panel of headteachers and is only used for borderline assessment cases

The Dover test covers Verbal and Non-verbal Reasoning as well as testing at the Key Stage 2 Maths and English level

School registration opens

The Kent test is organised by Kent Council Council and so you must register for the exam on the Kent Local Authority Website when your child is in Year 5. As a guideline, registration opened on the 1st June last year.

Dover test registration opens

To apply for the Dover test you must apply using the school website when your child is in Year 5. Once the exam has taken place, an application needs to be made through your local authority’s application system (a Secondary Common Application Form). Most of the time applications can be made online through your local authority’s website.

The school holds an open day for Year 5 students considering applying to the school.

If you choose the Kent test, make sure you register to before this date. As a guideline, registration closed on the 1st July last year.
